These beautiful Star Garnet Tumbles have a wonderfully deep colouring, moving through rich burgundy, plum and almost black depending on the individual stone and the light. Star Garnet is traditionally associated with grounding, protection, courage and inner strength, making it particularly supportive when you need to feel anchored in yourself, strengthen your boundaries or move through a challenging period with greater confidence.

Why I Chose This Crystal

I originally chose Star Garnet to accompany the Labradorite Shield in our Sacred Boundaries collection for our Crystal of the Month subscription, because I love the way these two crystals work together. Labradorite is traditionally associated with protecting our energetic boundaries while Garnet brings us firmly back into ourselves, grounding us into the body and reminding us of our own strength.

There is something very steadying about these little pieces. Their colouring is deep and understated, but when you look more closely there are beautiful burgundy and plum tones within them. For me, they are a reminder that boundaries become much easier to hold when we feel grounded and secure within ourselves.

Why is it called Star Garnet?

Star Garnet takes its name from a natural optical phenomenon known as asterism. In suitable pieces, tiny aligned inclusions within the Garnet can reflect a concentrated light source to create the appearance of rays or a star across the surface.

This effect is dependent on the internal structure of the individual stone, the way it has been polished and the direction and intensity of the light. These tumbles have been sourced as natural Star Garnet, but a visible star is not guaranteed and may not be apparent in normal lighting. I think the material is beautiful in its own right, regardless of whether an individual piece displays obvious asterism.

These are beautiful little pieces of Star Garnet with rich, dark colouring that can initially appear almost black before revealing burgundy, plum and deep red tones in brighter light.

Each has been individually polished into a softly rounded, tactile tumble rather than a uniform geometric shape, so there will naturally be variations between pieces.

Star Garnet is named for the asterism that can occur within this material, but this is not necessarily visible in every piece or under everyday lighting. Your tumble will be intuitively chosen for you and a visible star cannot be guaranteed.
