Why I Chose This Crystal

I've been working with Lemurian Quartz for many years, and these South African specimens genuinely surprised me. So different from the Brazilian formations I know so well, and yet unmistakably Lemurian in the way they feel to hold and explore.

I was able to secure just a small number from this new discovery and I honestly don't know if I'll ever find them again, which makes each piece feel even more precious.

What I love most about this particular crystal is how different its two sides are. One is covered in the most beautiful sparkling growths, tiny baby crystals scattered across the surface with larger barnacle formations emerging amongst them, there's so much quiet intricate detail to lose yourself in. The other side is darker and smokier, with the distinctive striations and glyph-like markings that make Lemurian Quartz so endlessly fascinating to work with.

It's one of those pieces that reveals something new each time you look at it. I find that quite rare, and quite wonderful.

WHAT IS SOUTH AFRICAN SMOKEY LEMURIAN QUARTZ?

Lemurian Quartz is traditionally associated with Quartz crystals discovered in Brazil, particularly those displaying distinctive horizontal growth striations.

Within Lemurian spiritual traditions, these markings are sometimes described as records or codes carrying ancient wisdom.

Although the name originated with Brazilian material, Quartz displaying similar growth characteristics is also found in other parts of the world.

This newly discovered South African material is particularly interesting because of its Smokey colouring, unusual growth patterns and abundant secondary crystal formations.

There is a beautiful belief within Lemurian spiritual traditions that these crystals continue to reveal themselves as humanity's consciousness evolves.

I find that idea particularly meaningful when working with crystals from new discoveries. Perhaps, as our awareness and relationship with the Earth deepen, we become more open to the wisdom and symbolism they represent.

Areas of the original host crystal and associated mineral material remain visible beneath the crystal growths, adding to its natural character.

The reverse has a contrasting darker Smokey appearance, with visible growth striations and glyph-like markings associated with Lemurian-style Quartz.

Some areas show complex secondary crystallisation, giving the specimen an appearance reminiscent of self-healed Quartz formations.

The contrast between the sparkling, lighter crystal-covered surface and the darker Smokey areas makes this a particularly interesting specimen to explore.
