Why I Chose This Crystal

There's something quite different about Shungite when you first hold it. Its deep black colouring makes it look as though it should feel incredibly solid and heavy, yet it's surprisingly light because of its high carbon content.

I also think Shungite feels particularly relevant to modern life. We spend so much time surrounded by phones, laptops, Wi-Fi and constant stimulation that I like working with it as a reminder to disconnect from some of that noise, ground yourself and come back to what's actually happening around you.

What is Shungite used for?

Shungite is traditionally worked with for grounding, purification and energetic protection. It has become particularly well known within modern crystal practice for placing near computers, mobile phones, Wi-Fi routers and other electronic devices.

Shungite's carbon-rich composition, including naturally occurring fullerene-like structures, has also attracted scientific research. However, claims that simply placing Shungite beside household electronics protects people from everyday electromagnetic fields have not been established by robust clinical evidence.

For this reason, we prefer to describe EMF protection as a traditional and contemporary metaphysical use of Shungite rather than a scientifically proven health benefit.

There is scientific interest in the unusual carbon composition and electromagnetic properties of Shungite-derived materials. However, this should not be confused with evidence that a polished Shungite crystal placed in a room has been scientifically proven to protect the human body from everyday EMF exposure.

Placing Shungite near your router will not block or interfere with your Wi-Fi signal.

Can I use polished Shungite in water?

We do not recommend using polished Shungite for drinking water or crystal elixirs.
