This True Selenite Sheet from Morocco is the transparent crystalline form of gypsum and is quite different in appearance from the fibrous Satin Spar commonly sold as Selenite. Naturally forming in clear, flat layers that can look almost like sheets of glass, True Selenite is traditionally associated with energetic purification, clarity and higher spiritual connection. Its naturally flat form makes it particularly beautiful for crystal grids, altars, meditation and energy work.

Why I Chose This Crystal

I love being able to offer True Selenite because it's so different from the white, silky Selenite most of us are familiar with. What is commonly sold as Selenite is usually Satin Spar, which is also gypsum, whereas these beautiful transparent pieces show Selenite in its true crystalline form.

They almost look like sheets of glass and there is something really beautiful about their simplicity. You can see the natural layers, clarity and little variations within every piece and no two are exactly the same.

Energetically, Selenite is one of my absolute favourites for cleansing and clarity. I use it constantly with crystals and jewellery and I love having it around when I want a space to feel calmer and clearer. True Selenite has those same traditional associations but in such an unusual natural formation that I think it's particularly special for meditation, crystal grids and more intentional energy work.

What is True Selenite?

True Selenite is a transparent crystalline variety of gypsum, a naturally occurring mineral composed of calcium sulphate dihydrate.

The white, fibrous crystal commonly sold within the crystal world as Selenite is generally Satin Spar. Both are forms of gypsum and both are widely used within crystal practices, but their crystal structures and appearance are distinctly different.

True Selenite typically forms transparent or translucent flat crystals with natural cleavage that can give the appearance of layers or sheets of glass. These pieces from Morocco are beautiful examples of that much less familiar form of the mineral.

These pieces are very different from the fibrous Satin Spar towers, bowls and plates that many people recognise as Selenite.

True Selenite forms in naturally transparent, flat crystalline layers. Depending on the individual piece, you may see exceptional clarity alongside natural lines, cleavage planes, inclusions, cloudy areas and variations in transparency.

I love that these pieces haven't been heavily shaped or polished into something uniform. Their natural structure is part of what makes them fascinating and each piece gives you an opportunity to see the mineral in a form that many crystal collectors haven't encountered before.

How to Work With This Crystal

True Selenite is particularly beautiful for more intentional crystal work.

Try placing it at the centre or edge of a crystal grid, using it with other crystals that represent what you're currently working towards. Its traditional association with energetic cleansing makes it a lovely foundation for grids around clarity, spiritual connection or releasing what you no longer need.

You can also simply hold your piece during meditation or keep it on an altar alongside the crystals and spiritual tools you use regularly.

Like all forms of gypsum, True Selenite is very soft and should be handled carefully. It has perfect cleavage and can separate naturally along its layers, so avoid knocks, pressure and water.

Selenite is an exceptionally soft mineral and can be scratched with a fingernail. True Selenite also cleaves readily along its natural crystal planes, so please handle your piece carefully and keep it completely dry.
