Larimar is one of the rarest healing stones in the world and its price reflects its scarcity, the difficulty of mining, and the importance of buying pieces that are truly authentic. Genuine Larimar exists only in one small region of the Dominican Republic. It is formed deep within volcanic structures and much of the mining takes place in challenging conditions that need strict environmental care. When Larimar is sourced irresponsibly it can damage the land and surrounding water systems which is why you often see cheaper material that has been mined without regard for the ecosystem or for the workers involved. There is also a large amount of imitation Larimar on the market, including dyed stones and material labelled as Chinese Larimar which is not true Larimar at all.
