The name Gaia comes from Ancient Greece, meaning 'Earth or Land'. In Greek mythology, Gaia is the personification of Earth. As the matriarch of the deities in Greek mythology, she plays a pivotal role in the evolution of the universe.

The crystal has been hand carved to the traditional design by Visionary artist and Neopagan Oberon Zell who created this now famous design in 1998 as a portrayal of Gaia, a Goddess for the New Millennium.
