Why I Chose This Crystal

I have such a soft spot for Celestite hearts, and this one has an especially wonderful formation.

What caught my attention immediately was the depth of the crystalline cavity. Rather than a relatively shallow opening, it draws you right into the centre of the heart, where these gorgeous blue crystals have formed naturally over time. Some of the points are particularly substantial, with beautiful angular faces that catch and reflect the light, and I love the way the colouring shifts, lighter almost icy blue around the edges, becoming darker and more intense deeper inside. It gives the whole piece a remarkable sense of depth.

And then there's that natural window. I always find these openings fascinating because they allow you to experience a crystal in a completely different way, light travelling through rather than simply reflecting off the surface. I can imagine this being quite beautiful with something soft positioned behind it in the evening.

The quality of the finish is something I particularly appreciate too. Celestite can sometimes have quite a flaky outer matrix, which is simply part of its natural formation, but this piece has been beautifully polished including the back, making such a difference to the overall presentation. And seeing it upright on its stand rather than resting flat changes everything about how you experience the formation.
