Working With Your Crystal | Learning the Language

One of the most common things I notice is that crystals get bought and then left.

Not because the person didn't care, but because nobody told them what working with a crystal actually means. And it's not what most people think.

It isn't about learning all the properties first. It isn't about getting it right. It's about learning a language, one that doesn't use words, one that speaks in subtle feelings, quiet pulls, small expansions in the chest, a sense of recognition you can't quite explain.

Your best friend might raise an eyebrow at it. It doesn't make sense in a cerebral way. But somewhere ancient and unhurried in you, you recognise it. And that recognition is exactly where the practice begins.

The Paint Palette

I think of crystals like a paint palette.

Each one carries its own colour, its own frequency. And as you work with them intuitively over time, you stop reaching for the colour you think you should use and start reaching for the one that's calling to you that day, often without knowing exactly why.

When I was a teenager, long before I knew anything about crystals, I bought myself a black tourmaline ring. Not because I'd read about its properties. Not because anyone suggested it. I just felt an inexplicable pull towards it and wore it for years.

It was only later, when I began working with crystals properly, that I understood. Black tourmaline is a stone of protection and grounding. And looking back at who I was then and what I was navigating, it made complete sense. My body knew before my mind did.

That's the secret code. You feel the pull first. The understanding comes later, and when it does, it lands like a quiet, knowing smile.

How to Actually Sit With One

This doesn't need to be elaborate or take long. But in the beginning, it helps to create a little intentional space.

Hold your crystal in your hands. Our hands are directly connected to our hearts, and that physical contact is where the conversation starts. Notice the texture. The temperature. The weight of it in your palm.

Then breathe. In through your nose for a count of four, out for a count of six. Let your nervous system settle and let yourself drop from your head into your heart space.

Then simply notice. You might feel a slight opening in your chest, a tingling in your hands, a sense of warmth or expansion. You might feel absolutely nothing at all, and that's fine too. Your mind will probably get busy, telling you this isn't working, this is a waste of time. That's just what minds do. Let it chatter. You don't need to engage with it.

What I always do in these moments is ask. I invite the crystal to work with me, to connect with my energy, to support whatever I'm moving through right now. A crystal, like the universe, like the people around us, can't know what we need unless we ask. And there's something quietly powerful about a woman who's willing to ask for what she needs.

Why This Matters

There is no shortage of voices in the crystal world telling you what you need. This crystal for anxiety. That one for abundance. Buy this, and you'll feel that.

I've never been comfortable with that approach. My deepest belief is that you are the expert of yourself. The crystals are a language, and working with them intuitively is really about learning to read your own inner knowing, that quiet, cyclical, ancient part of you that modern life asks you to override again and again.

Particularly as women, we carry a deep inner wisdom that often goes unheard. Not because it isn't there, but because we've been taught to distrust it, to reach for the logical answer, the expert opinion, the prescription.

This is why I feel so passionate about creating space to actually learn this. Not to tell you which crystal to buy, but to help you develop your own relationship with them, and with your own intuition.

Want to Go Deeper?

Inside the Moon & Earth Circle membership, I hold monthly crystal workshops designed to do exactly this. Each one creates dedicated space to slow down, connect, and develop your own intuitive relationship with crystals and the natural world.

If that calls to you, you can explore everything that's included in the membership here.
