Moldavite Sourcing & Ethics

Where Our Moldavite Comes From
Moldavite is one of the most powerful and sought after tektites in the world. Formed over 15 million years ago by a meteorite impact in what is now the Czech Republic, genuine Moldavite is extremely rare and found only in a small region of Central Europe.
Because of its rarity, intensity and increasing demand, Moldavite is also one of the most frequently misrepresented crystals on the market. For us, knowing exactly where our Moldavite comes from, who has sourced it and how it has been handled matters deeply. It is not just about authenticity, but about integrity.
At Moon & Earth, we believe that crystals carry not only energy, but story. This is why we choose to work directly with people who know the land, the material and the science behind it.
Sourcing Moldavite Directly from the Czech Republic
All of our Moldavite is sourced directly from the Czech Republic, the only place in the world where true Moldavite is found.
We work with a trusted and qualified geologist who regularly travels to the Moldavite fields, working closely with local miners and contacts in the region. This hands on approach allows for direct oversight of where the material is found, how it is collected and how it is graded.
This is not mass mining or factory sourcing. Moldavite is recovered carefully from ancient sediment layers, often by hand, in landscapes shaped by millions of years of geological history.
Because of this direct relationship, we are able to confidently verify that every piece of Moldavite we offer is genuine, naturally formed and ethically sourced.

Why Working with a Geologist Matters
Moldavite authenticity is not something that can be reliably determined by appearance alone. While there are visual characteristics that help identify genuine pieces, true verification comes from geological knowledge, experience and understanding of formation patterns.
A trained geologist is able to assess Moldavite based on its structure, texture, surface features and context of discovery. This expertise is invaluable in a market where imitation glass and mislabelled material are increasingly common.
By sourcing directly through a geologist, we remove layers of uncertainty. We are not relying on third party claims or resale chains. We know exactly where our Moldavite has come from and who has handled it.
Quality, Grade and Why Not All Moldavite Is the Same
Not all Moldavite is equal.
There are wide variations in clarity, surface structure, depth of colour and overall formation. Lower grade Moldavite is more common and often appears dull, heavily damaged or overly fragmented. Higher grade pieces display stronger sculpting, natural surface texture and a more vibrant, complex appearance.
We always choose the highest grade available to us. While this means paying more at source, it ensures that the Moldavite we offer is visually striking, energetically potent and worthy of long term keeping.
Our pricing reflects not only weight, but quality, rarity and the care taken to source each piece responsibly.
Ethical Sourcing and Respect for the Land
Ethical sourcing is not just about where something comes from, but how it is collected.
The Moldavite fields are fragile environments and the material itself is finite. Responsible recovery respects both the land and the communities connected to it. Working directly with local miners and specialists allows for careful, small scale collection rather than destructive extraction.
This approach aligns with our wider values at Moon & Earth. We choose to stock fewer pieces, chosen with intention, rather than chasing volume.
Transparency and Trust
We understand that Moldavite can feel intimidating, especially for those new to working with it. Questions around authenticity, origin and pricing are natural.
By sharing our sourcing process openly, we hope to offer reassurance and clarity. We want you to feel confident not only in the energy of the crystal you choose, but in the journey it has taken to reach you.
