To cleanse any space's energy, simply light a stick and then extinguish the flame, gently waving the stick in the air or waving your hand over the stick.

Palo Santo has a very high concentration of both limonene and α-terpineol terpenes, which give it a distinctive smell of citrus, pine and mint. Scientific studies show that these two terpenes are strong anti-inflammatory compounds that regulate the immune system and act as antioxidants effective for fighting free radicals, relieving stress and reducing headaches and other pains.

When the unique fragrance of Palo Santo scent stimulates the brain, the body turns on its relaxation response, blood circulation increases, and we experience feelings of mental and emotional clarity, peace and tranquility plus many other beneficial effects.

According to shamanic lore, when the smoke from Palo Santo wood enters our personal energy field (the space around us) the tree spirit in this wood clears away negative thoughts, unfortunate situations, wards off evil spirits, and helps to re-establish peace and balance.

Tips for using your Palo Santo stick:

Open windows to let stagnant smoke and energy drift out of your home

On lighting your smudge stick do so carefully, if it flames, lightly blow it out to create a light smouldering effect. A candle or lighter /matches will be fine for lighting.

Hold your smudge stick above a heat proof container to catch any embers as they drop.

It’s common to have to relight your Palo Santo stick to keep it smouldering. You can gently blow or wave it also.

Always set an intention before starting your smudging ritual and align any words you use during your ritual with this intention.

Smudge/cleanse as regularly as you feel you need to ~ monthly, weekly or even daily.

Always make sure your Palo Santo stick is fully out after use and store in a heat proof container

Make sure you have something to catch any embers underneath the stick as you smudge to avoid burning anything or yourself!
