Uruguayan Amethyst is particularly prized for its depth and saturation of colour and this piece is a lovely example of just how dark it can become. The crystals are absolutely tiny and densely packed, giving the whole surface an incredible sparkle.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI also love how dark it is. It can look almost black until you catch the lilac-purple underneath, which gives it a completely different character from my other Uruguayan pieces.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWhat makes Uruguayan Amethyst special?\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eUruguay is renowned for producing some of the world's most intensely coloured Amethyst, often with particularly rich, deep purple colouring and densely packed crystal formations.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAmethyst is the purple variety of Quartz. Its colour develops through trace amounts of iron within the Quartz combined with natural irradiation during its formation. The resulting colour can range from very pale lavender through rich violet to specimens so deeply saturated that they can appear almost black in some lighting.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe size and formation of the crystals can also vary enormously.
